This house was built in 1969 - the family bath had square light blue ceramic tile halfway up the wall and octagon (about 4" across) on the floor. We are finally redoing the bathroom. I have all the tile off the wall and am ready to take up the floor tiles but underneath the floor tiles there is a layer of what looks like cement on top of the subflooring. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the tile up and rid of this cement flooring? We've been using a chisel but that's going to take forever if that's the only way to get rid of it. Thanks.

In 69, your dealing with a mudbed, no backerboard there!!! Chicken wire is a sure sign someone cut some corners. Metal lathe is used in a proper mudbed. An electric demo chisel works great.
