A local tile store has a beautiful display of this type of granite tile. It costs about $2000 for the tiles and edges. It seems to me that it would be relatively easy to do ourselves. I am planning on doing our backsplash myself. I am just not sure what counters we are choosing yet and will wait to decide. I have 4 little boys. Would a tile job hold up ok? Should we just spend the money($6000) and get granite slab? Thank you for the advice!

a slab is generally 50 - 55 sq ft. What color did you say you were looking at? If it is a relatively common color that remains very consistent in pattern and color - you could still use remnants provided they had one large enough for the peninsula. Ubatuba or black galaxy for instance most always look close enough to use different lot numbers in the same kitchen as long as they're not butted up.... one piece per section. If you have the time, most granite shops do not mind if you just go poke around in their boneyard ... you may find something they didn't even remember they had tucked away somewhere. Tiles will also be very durable once installed and set properly... I just prefer the no seam look when possible myself. I certainly understand stretching the budget though with 4 little ones. I'm sure it will be fabulous either way... granite is granite is granite.
