During our remodel we opened a big can of worms. We discovered that our bathroom exhaust fan was never connected and the moisture was going up to the attic and into the insulation. Our r38 insulation now has turned slightly blackish. We are unsure if this is a mildew/ mold problem or if the insulation turns color naturally. Does anyone know? And do you think that we need to replace ALL the insulation?

You could have it tested before sending it off to the landfill. I suspect it is just dirt, the fiberglass insulation makes a great "air filter" and traps all the dust in the air blowing through it. Dark stains on the insulation is a great way to find air leaks in your attic. It is very common to find these around unsealed holes for plumbing and electrical wires.

I would suspect that if you have a mold problem from this you'd find it more on the wood than on the insulation. there isn't much in fiberglass insulation to support mold. Wood on the other hand provides plenty of food for it.
